SAHM Daily Routine With 2 Under 2
A realistic daily rhythm for moms navigating life with little ones
🖤
A Realistic Routine For This Season Of Motherhood
When I first became a stay at home mom, I imagined our days would feel calm and organized. But once I found myself home with two little ones under two, the reality looked a lot different.
Between toddler messes, diaper changes, laundry piling up, and trying to keep everyone fed and happy, some days I felt I was in pure survival mode.
It took me some time to realize that what I needed wasn’t a perfectly structured schedule, it was a simple daily routine that helped my days feel more predictable and manageable.
After a lot of trial and error, I’ve found a routine that helps our home run more smoothly while still leaving plenty of room for the unpredictable moments that come with little kids.
If you’re a stay at home mom trying to figure out a rhythm that works for your family, I hope this daily routine gives you a helpful starting point.
🖤A gentle reminder:
Every family’s routine will look a little different. This is simply the routine that has been working best for our home in this season.

A small play area like this makes it easier for my toddler to play independently during the day. Baskets help keep the toys organized, easy to pick up, and inviting for my toddler to play.
Why A Simple Daily Routine Makes Mom Life Easier
When you’re home with little kids all day, the hours can sometimes feel long and unpredictable. I’ve found that having a simple daily routine helps bring a little more structure and calm to our days.
It’s not about following a strict schedule every minute. It’s about creating a gentle rhythm that helps both mom and toddler know what to expect throughout the day.
TODDLERS THRIVE ON PREDICTABILITY
Young children feel more secure when their day follows a familiar pattern. When my toddler knows what usually comes next, breakfast, playtime, lunch, nap, etc., it helps prevent some of the meltdowns that come from being overtired or hungry.
A routine creates a sense of comfort and predictability.
IT HELPS THE DAY FEEL MORE MANAGEABLE
Without a routine, the day can sometimes feel like you’re constantly reacting to whatever happens next.
Having a simple flow to the day helps me feel less overwhelmed because I have a general idea of what part of the day we’re in and what usually comes next.
It also makes it easier to keep up with small household tasks without feeling like everything is piling up.
IT BUILDS IN NATURAL RESET MOMENTS
One of the biggest benefits of a daily routine is that it creates natural moments to reset the house and your energy. When I know generally what I’m doing during the day, I can plan ahead for the tasks I need to complete and I am more likely to get them done.
For example:
• a quick kitchen reset after breakfast while the kids play
• a short tidy during nap time
• an evening reset before bed
These small habits make a big difference in keeping the home from feeling chaotic.
Before I share what our typical day looks like, I want to mention that every family’s routine will look a little different depending on ages, schedules, and personal preferences.
This is simply the daily routine that works best for my family in this season with two little ones.
🖤 A routine doesn’t have to be perfect to make a big difference in how your days feel.
My Stay At Home Mom Morning Routine
Mornings tend to set the tone for the rest of the day in our home. With two little ones under two, our mornings are definitely not perfectly structured, but having a simple morning routine to start the day helps everything feel more manageable.
Rather than following a strict schedule, I focus on a few key things that help us start the day calmly and get everyone ready for the rest of the day.
WAKE UP AND START THE DAY
Sometimes I am the mom that wakes up before her kids get up, and sometimes I’m not. Honestly, it comes down to how much sleep I get the night before.
Either way, I like to start the day off with taking a few minutes for myself to get my skincare routine in and brush my teeth.
Next, I get the kids up, changed, and head off to the kitchen for breakfast. Breakfast starts off with a bottle for the baby, while my toddler heads over the toy area and plays independently until breakfast is ready.
Our go to breakfast is currently eggs, toast, yogurt, and berries.
I will typically eat breakfast while my toddler eats and that’s also the time that I drink my coffee. Starting the morning at a slower pace helps set a calm tone for the rest of the day.
QUICK MORNING KITCHEN RESET
After breakfast, I set my toddler up with a quick setup activity and put my baby on a play mat with a few age appropriate toys while I do a quick reset of the kitchen.
This usually means loading the breakfast dishes in the dishwasher, wiping down the counters and high chairs, and putting away anything left out.
It only takes a few minutes, but it makes a huge difference with keeping the day feeling calm.
GET DRESSED AND READY FOR THE DAY
One small habit that makes my day feel more productive is getting dressed for the day. Even on days when we’re mostly staying home, taking a few minutes to get ready helps me feel more put together and ready for the day ahead.
CIRCLE TIME
After the kitchen is tidied up and I’m dressed for the day, I gather the kids in the play area for what we call circle time.
I grab a couple of my toddler’s favorite stuffed animals and we sit together in a little circle to read books and sing songs.
Some days I pick the books and songs based on a theme for the day, and other days I let me toddler choose.
It’s a simple way for us to spend a few focused minutes together before moving on to the next part of our morning.
OUTSIDE TIME
After circle time, it’s usually about time for the baby’s nap. Once the baby is down, I take my toddler outside for some fresh air and playtime in the backyard.
This helps keep the house quiet for the baby and also gives my toddler a chance to burn off some energy.
We have a small play set, but my toddler also loves playing with sidewalk chalk, a watering can, or even just exploring leaves and sticks.
Getting outside in the morning almost always helps the rest of the day go more smoothly.

Nap Time Reset
After lunch comes the most important part of our day, nap time! It’s my chance to reset the house and catch my breath for the afternoon shift.
Here are some of the things I do while the kids nap:
- Quick toy pickup
- Dinner prep
- Work on my blog
- Complete one of my daily cleaning tasks
🖤 Some days I simply take a nap
Afternoon Routine
First things first after nap time, we have a snack. There is nothing worse than a hungry toddler. Then we like to ease into the afternoon with some playtime. Oftentimes my toddler will choose her own adventure, but sometimes I will bring out an activity or a basket of toys that I have rotated out to see if they will spark her interest.
Some days we stay home and go out for a walk, and some days we go out and run errands. Flexible afternoons work the best for us.
Evening Routine
In the evening my husband gets home from work and I officially clock out for the day… just kidding.
But it is usually the point in the day when things start to feel a little lighter because we can divide and conquer the evening routine together.
After a full day at home with the kids, it’s nice to have another set of hands to help with dinner, baths, and bedtime.
Simple Habits That Help Our Home Run Smoothly
The transition from one to two kids really made me examine my time management when it comes to household tasks. At first I would push everything off until the weekend when my husband was home from work and could help out with the kids. I ended up feeling burned out so fast because I felt like I never had any time to rest or time for myself. Changing my daily habits made a huge difference.
Our house is definitely not perfect, but these simple habits helped me reclaim some of my time and sanity.

I go into detail on this on my Simple Weekly Cleaning Schedule post linked here.
GETTING OUTSIDE WITH THE KIDS
Getting outside for even a short time each day almost always helps everyone’s mood.
Fresh air and a little movement make a big difference for toddlers, and it usually helps the rest of the day go more smoothly.
Simple systems. Calm days. Intentional motherhood.
