When I first became a stay at home mom, I felt like I was constantly behind. By the end of the day, my house would end up looking like a tornado went through. Toys scattered everywhere, dishes in the sink, laundry somehow multiplying, and two little ones who still needed their bath and bedtime routines.
I would spend every weekend cleaning the house, just to start Monday morning already exhausted and feeling behind. I found the best way out of this endless loop is to stick to a daily reset routine.
With everything on my plate, I don’t have time to spend hours cleaning the house at night, but I can commit to 15 minutes a night. This simple reset has made a huge difference in helping my home feel manageable instead of overwhelming.

A simple reset that makes mornings easier
WHY A DAILY RESET MAKES MOM LIFE EASIER
Before I started doing my daily reset routine I had a hard time winding down for the night. Instead of relaxing and enjoying the small window of time to myself, my mind would race through all of the cleaning tasks I should be doing but was just too physically exhausted to get to.
As a busy mom, the mental load can sometimes feel heavier than the actual mess. I never felt like I was truly relaxing because I knew I would wake up to even more chaos in the morning.
Implementing a simple 15-minute reset completely changed that for me. Instead of feeling constantly behind, I now have a small, realistic system that helps me close out the day.
Now when I sit down at night, I can actually rest instead of mentally keeping a to-do list running.
MY SIMPLE 15 MINUTE RESET ROUTINE
1. LOAD THE DISHWASHER
I’ll be honest, doing dishes is one of my least favorite chores. But trying to wash cups first thing in the morning while my toddler is tugging on my leg asking for her water over and over is definitely not how I want to start the day.
Running the dishwasher as part of my nightly reset has made such a difference. Now I wake up knowing we have clean cups, plates, and utensils ready to go, which makes our mornings feel so much smoother.
It’s a small habit, but it eliminates one more point of stress during an already busy part of the day.
2. QUICK TOY PICKUP
Before we start my toddler’s bedtime routine, we always do a quick toy pickup together. I want her to grow up knowing that cleaning up after yourself is just a normal part of the day, not a punishment or something overwhelming.
I guide her while we put toys back into bins and baskets. It only takes a few minutes, but it’s already becoming a good habit for both of us.
One thing that has helped me stay on top of toy clutter is keeping a basket in our hallway. Throughout the day, if I find toys scattered around the house, I just toss them in the basket for an easy pickup later. It keeps the mess from spreading everywhere and makes our evening reset much faster.
This isn’t about having a perfectly clean house, it’s about keeping things manageable and teaching small habits that will pay off later.
3. WIPE KITCHEN COUNTERS
Something about waking up to clean counters makes the whole house feel more put together.
At night, I just do a quick wipe of the counters, table, and high chairs after the dishes are loaded, just enough to clear crumbs, sticky spots, and the evidence of a full day of snacks and meals.
It only takes a couple minutes, but it makes such a difference in how the kitchen feels the next morning. Instead of walking into yesterday’s mess, I get to start the day with a clean space.
For me, that small reset helps mornings feel calmer and a little less chaotic.
4. START LAUNDRY
Laundry is one of those chores that never really ends, especially with little kids. Instead of letting it pile up, I try to do at least one small load as part of our daily reset.

I also like to involve my toddler by letting her help move clothes from the washer to the dryer and from the dryer into the basket. It takes a little longer this way, but I remind myself that I’m not just getting laundry done, I’m teaching her life skills and helping her feel included in our home routines.
Some nights she’s very helpful, and other nights she’s mostly playing while I work, but the goal isn’t perfection. It’s creating small habits and letting her see that taking care of our home is something we do together.
Doing just one load a day keeps laundry from becoming overwhelming and makes it feel much more manageable.
It may take longer now, but I know I’m building habits that will help us later.
